Kalavve

Sharana · 12th century · Kannada · 1 translation

Kālavve was a 12th-century weaver-spinner who pursued the Kāyaka of spinning and weaving. Only one vachana of hers survives, bearing the signature Gummesvara. In it the spindle becomes a symbol of Kāyaka as vow, and she warns the Śharaņeyas against joining vow-breakers.
